What Is Umrah Mabrur? Discover Its Meaning, Signs, and Complete Supplications

Many people begin their umrah journey with warm hopes and sincere prayers. You may feel the same excitement as you envision this sacred pilgrimage. A spiritual journey like this always carries deep and meaningful reflections.

One of the greatest aspirations of every pilgrim is to attain umrah mabrur. This hope arises from the desire to become a better person. To understand more deeply what umrah mabrur truly means, let’s explore the explanation below.

What Is Umrah Mabrur?

Umrah mabrur refers to an umrah performed correctly, with sincerity, and one that brings positive change to oneself and to others upon returning home.

In simple terms, an umrah is considered mabrur when a person completes all of its rituals properly and displays improved character, attitude, and behavior afterward.

Although not frequently used, the term umrah mabrurah is also recognized and mentioned in several hadiths. In At-Targhib wat Tarhib, Imam Al-Mundziri cites hadiths from Ahmad, At-Thabarani, and Al-Baihaqi, stating that hajj mabrur and umrah mabrurah are among the deeds of great virtue.

The Difference Between Umrah Mabrur and Umrah Mabrurah

Although often considered the same, mabrur and mabrurah carry slightly different nuances. Here is a clearer explanation:

1. Linguistic Meaning

Linguistically, both mabrur and mabrurah refer to goodness, sincerity, and deeds accepted by Allah, the Most High. Both terms come from the same root word, al-birr.
The term mabrur emphasizes the acceptance of one’s umrah by Allah for being performed according to the prophetic guidance and with sincere intentions.

On the other hand, mabrurah highlights the presence of goodness and blessings that arise as the fruit of performing the umrah.

2. Context of Worship

Umrah mabrur emphasizes performing the rituals with sincere intention and utmost effort. Meanwhile, umrah mabrurah stresses having the right intention and striving to increase good deeds during the pilgrimage.

How to Attain Umrah Mabrur

To ensure your worship carries the highest value in the sight of Allah, there are several efforts you can make to perform each ritual with greater devotion. Here are some ways to enhance the quality of your umrah and inspire positive change afterward:

1. Sincere Intention

Worship is carried out solely to seek the pleasure of Allah, not for worldly praise or recognition. Sincerity is the foundation that strengthens spiritual value and fosters self-improvement.

2. Adhering to the Sharia

Every ritual is performed according to the Prophet’s guidance, without adding or subtracting from it. This includes understanding the procedures, respecting the boundaries, and avoiding prohibitions of the state of ihram.

3. Performing Deeds With Excellence

Every act of worship—obligatory or recommended—is done conscientiously and wholeheartedly. Pilgrims strive to improve their ibadah, such as increasing remembrance, giving charity, and upholding proper etiquette in the Holy Land.

4. Showing Respect to Others

Pilgrims maintain polite behavior, especially toward fellow worshippers. Avoiding pushing, refraining from anger, and guarding one’s speech are essential manners that reflect spiritual maturity.

5. Worshipping With Pure Intent

All acts—from tawaf to supplications at blessed sites—are performed without seeking reward other than Allah’s pleasure. This keeps the heart free from pride and enhances the meaning of worship.

6. Praying With Sincerity

Prayers are offered with a soft heart and full hope in Allah. Such sincerity deepens one’s spiritual connection throughout the journey.

Is There a Special Prayer for Umrah Mabrur?

There is no specific prayer that guarantees umrah mabrur, but several supplications may be recited to seek blessings and goodness on the journey, including:

اللهم اجعل عمرتي عمرًة مبرورة ، وسعيًا مشكورًا ، وذنبًا مغفورًا ، وتجارةً لن تبور

Meaning:

“O Allah, make my umrah a mabrur umrah, my sa’i one that You accept, my sins forgiven, and my efforts not in vain.”

You may also pray in Indonesian (or any language you understand):

“O Allah, please make my umrah one that You bless and accept, a source of goodness and forgiveness, and a path that helps me become a better person.”

Attaining umrah mabrur is not achieved by prayer alone, but also by sincere effort.
