BFI Finance Makes Sustainable Contribution to NTT Communities, Builds Village Sanitation and School Classroom

Kupang, October 15, 2021 – As a manifestation of care and sustainable contribution in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), PT BFI Finance Indonesia Tbk (BFI Finance) has built clean water facilities and completed school renovation. Now communities in four villages in NTT can have the benefits of clean water from development of wells and sanitation installation, which was officially inaugurated by BFI Finance on October 4, 2021. Moreover, BFI Finance has also built a classroom at SMPN 5 Kupang Barat Satu Atap state junior high school.

“One of BFI Finance’s visions is to contribute in improving the quality of life of communities. We hope that the sanitation program for communities can fulfil their needs for clean water. Now they certainly can have access to clean water for healthier life, so their quality of life will get better,” said Francisca Susilawati, Head of Corporate Communication and CSR of BFI Finance.

The sustainable contribution was one of BFI Finance’s programs to recover locations impacted by natural disaster. Waiburak village and Samasoge village in di Flores Timur regency, Oeue village in Timor Tengah Selatan regency, and Dolulolong in Lembata regency were four villages impacted by the flash flood and heavy winds caused by Seroja tropical cyclone in NTT in April 2021. Many houses were swept away by the flood and covered in mud, causing fatalities and quite heavy infrastructure damages.

Collaborating with Sekolah Relawan, a humanitarian foundation focusing on volunteering education, BFI Finance developed wells, water ponds, water distribution system with pipes, and provided other sanitation infrastructures and facilities, such as water tanks, public toilets, and stopcocks. Additionally, community members also received training about how to manage the facilities effectively and implementation of clean lifestyle, most importantly amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation. As many as 650 households were targeted for this sanitation development. Also, 100 households from Kwela village in Adonara Timur and Amakaka village in Lembata have received aid of cooking utensils.

BFI Finance has furthermore contributed to education in NTT by building a classroom at SMPN 5 Kupang Barat Satu Atap state junior high school that was also damaged because of Seroja cyclone. Transfer of aid was symbolically held by Arman Hamka, Branch Manager of BFI Finance of Kupang branch office on October 14. Besides classroom renovation, the company has also distributed aid packages containing of a number of items, namely laptop, face masks, face shields, and thermo guns.

All of BFI Finance’s donations during this pandemic period have been distributed by complying with tight health protocols. “The ongoing pandemic condition has forced the implementation of BFI Finance’s social responsibilities programs to be adapted to current situation. We must stay optimistic, support and care for each other. Don’t get caught off guard and always adhere to the 5M health protocol in accordance with government rules,” said Francisca Susilawati.
